Seeking Victims in the Snapchat Hacking Investigation

The FBI is seeking to identify potential victims of a Snapchat hacking scheme that involved compromising Snapchat accounts to obtain nude or semi-nude photos of victims from at least May 2020 to March 2021 (though activity could have occurred outside these dates). The FBI believes the Snapchat hacking scheme targeted females of various ages across the United States.

Victims received text messages from the “Snapchat Support Team” informing them that there was suspicious login activity on their Snapchat accounts. To secure their accounts, victims were told to respond by text with a six-digit security code that they received separately from Snapchat. These six-digit security codes were then used to log into the victims’ accounts and steal the victims’ sensitive images or videos. Victims were likely logged out of their Snapchat accounts for a period of time while these unauthorized intrusions were taking place.

The subject of the investigation is believed to have used the following telephone numbers to text the victims:

  • 213-319-8870
  • 213-349-3694
  • 213-900-8203
  • 213-559-8742
  • 213-476-0706
  • 469-717-3372
  • 785-397-3624

[Note: These telephone numbers are no longer believed to be utilized by the subject.]

The subject was based in Illinois at the time of the above-described activity, but targeted victims across the United States and, in many cases, did not appear to know the victims personally.

If you were a victim of this scheme, you may have received new login notifications from Snapchat during this timeframe (approximately May 2020 – March 2021), often from an iPad (6th gen), the IP address 67.175.210.186, and a location of Plainfield, IL.

[Note: The IP address is no longer believed to be utilized by the subject.]

The FBI has also sent emails to victims believed to be targeted in this scheme. If you have received this email, please fill out the fields below. If you have already been in contact with the FBI Boston Field office, you do not need to fill in the fields below.

If you or your minor dependent(s) have been in contact with any of the above telephone numbers or an associated online persona in any of the circumstances described here, please fill out this short form so the FBI can contact you. All identities of victims will be kept out of the public domain.

If you know of someone else who has been victimized in a manner that seems consistent with the above information, please encourage them to complete this form.

The FBI is legally mandated to identify victims of federal crimes that it investigates. Identified victims may be eligible for certain services and rights under federal and/or state law.
