FBI Improvised Explosives Threat Awareness Demonstration
On September 12, 2024, the Springfield Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Springfield Bomb Squad Task Force will present an improvised explosive workshop for first responders, law enforcement, chemical industry and academia personnel. The classroom portion of this training will be held in the morning at the Olin Center for Excellence, 960 Powder Mill Road, Alton, Illinois 62002. The lecture will focus on FBI initiatives and capabilities, chemical threats, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The afternoon session will consist of returning to the Olin Center for Excellence, for a live demonstration of various improvised explosives, most of which can be mixed using common household chemicals, and could be included in IEDs. This demonstration is designed to underscore the potential danger posed by these chemicals.
