FBI Chemical Outreach Industry Workshop (CIOW) - San Juan

Background: CIOW workshops are hosted by FBI field offices as standalone events tailored primarily to chemical industry and academia personnel and subsequently aimed at a broader audience to include Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) Task Force Officers, FBI, state and local police management, and first responders. The workshop helps create liaisons for potential future tripwire activity reporting. In the morning, attendees receive briefings on improvised explosives (IE), explosive precursor chemicals (EPCs), toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and the FBI’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate mission to mitigate the EPC/TIC threat. In the afternoon, attendees witness a live demonstration of conventional and improvised explosives, reinforcing the teaching points covered in the morning briefings. The number of attendees is dependent on classroom and explosive-range capabilities.
